The Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) has published the findings from its latest Adult Social Care Workforce Survey, offering valuable insight into the experiences and wellbeing of the adult social care workforce in England.
Conducted between August and October 2025, the survey gathered responses from 3,008 adult social care workers and highlights both encouraging progress and the challenges that continue to affect the sector.
Key findings
- Life satisfaction increased to 51%, up 10 percentage points from the previous survey.
- Happiness rose to 55%.
- The proportion of staff considering leaving the sector fell from 34% to 25%.
- 56% of respondents reported having little or no financial security.
- 41% experienced physical violence from the people they support during the previous year.
While the findings show improvements in workforce wellbeing, they also reinforce the importance of continuing to invest in staff support, financial wellbeing and safe working environments.
For providers, the report offers useful evidence to help inform workforce planning, wellbeing initiatives and conversations around recruitment and retention.
